Kangal Irandal - Subramanyapuram

My first attempt at a duet song. Thanks to Roshini for sharing this wonderful k-track with the female lead voice retained.

Beautifully composed by the James vasanthan with modern sounds, this song is based on the scale of 'Reethigowlam' as per the composer and has close resemblance to Chinna kannan Azhikkiran song composed by Ilayaraja in the late 70s.
Although the song sounds cute, the visuals picturized with a 80s village backdrop doesn't gel with modern techno sounds and is not very convincing instead some more native Indian instruments like the flute piece in the 2nd bgm would have sounded more authentic.

Nevertheless Kudos to James for giving such a nice melody in this age dominated by soft rock and hip hop styles in tamil film music.

Nenjukkul Peithidum - Varanam Aayiram (Cover)

Another beautiful melody from Harris Jayaraj this time from the movie Varanam Aayiram. The original song sung by Hariharan.
I get a feeling that even Harris has played some part in Surya's success in film industry by producing some wonderful songs right from 'Kaakka kaakka' till the recent 'Aadhavan'. Harris Rocksss...

Please use head phones.

Sarafaroshi ki Tamanna

Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna is a poem in Urdu, written by Bismil Azimabadi. Ram Prasad Bismil, the great Indian Independence leader, made it popular. The poem is written as an ode to the young freedom fighters of the Indian Independence Movement, and is often associated with the younger generation of inter-war freedom fighters such as Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad.

This song was beautifully set to tune by AR Rahman for the hindi movie 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh' starring Ajay Devgan. This song was originally sung by Sonu Nigam and Hariharan.

Find below the short version of this song arranged and sung by me.

Lyrics:

Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Hamare Dil Mein Hai
Dehkna Hai Zor Kitna Baajuen Qaatil Mein Hai
Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Hamare Dil Mein Hai
Dehkna Hai Zor Kitna Baajuen Qaatil Mein Hai
Waqt Aane Pe Bata Denge Tujhe Hai Aasmaan
Kya Baatein Hum Junoonein Shok Kis Manzil Mein Hai
Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Hamare Dil Mein Hai
Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna

Dooriyaan Umeed Ki Na Aaj Humse Choot Jaaye
Milke Dekha Hai Jine Woh Sapne Bhi Na Root Jaaye
Hausle Woh Hausle Kya Jo Sitam Se Toot Jaaye
Hausle Woh Hausle Kya Jo Sitam Se Toot Jaaye
Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Hamare Dil Mein Hai
Dehkna Hai Zor Kitna Baajuen Qaatil Mein Hai

Malgudi days

Who could ever forget the 'Malgudi Days - Swami and his friends' television series based on the works of R.K. Narayan. The series was directed by actor and director, Shankar Nag while Carnatic musician L. Vaidyanathan composed the score; Narayan's brother, R. K. Laxman was the sketch artist. The series was made in 1986 by film producer T. S. Narasimhan and included Anant Nag as the lead actor.

I tried to give a fresh make over to the old Malgudi days theme song. Please listen to this short instrumental version.
